The ProjectKOMPAKT.
Coordinated Management of Parking Spaces in Cities — a pilot project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Transport (BMV) under the mFUND initiative.
Why KOMPAKT?
In Aachen's streets, different uses compete for scarce public space: parked cars, bike lanes, pedestrian zones, green areas, and outdoor dining
KOMPAKT addresses exactly this: through intelligent matching of private parking spaces, existing demand is redirected from public streets to private spots — freeing valuable urban space for everyone.
Key Measures of KOMPAKT
- 1Make private parking spaces usable
- 2Easier and cheaper access to parking garages for residents
- 3Needs-based release of parking and charging areas
- 4Automatic detection of illegal parking
- 5Improve data basis for parking
Record parking space utilization in public streets & analyze parking expenses and tariffs

The Consortium
Five strong partners from government, science, business, and technology working together on the mobility of tomorrow.
Open Urban Dataplatform
As part of KOMPAKT, an open urban data platform is being created that networks parking data for the first time and makes it usable for urban planning.
All collected data is processed in compliance with privacy regulations. Personal user data is anonymized — transparency and privacy come first.

Funded by
The research and development project KOMPAKT is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) as part of the mFUND innovation initiative.
Citizen participation & Citizen Science
KOMPAKT is more than a research project — it's a pilot project where Aachen's citizens actively participate in shaping their city. Through your participation as a provider or parker, you contribute directly to data collection and urban transformation.
